What is XRF Testing?

XRF stands for X-ray Fluorescence, a scientific measurement technique that uses a focused beam of X-rays to analyse the elemental composition of a material. When the beam hits your gold or silver item, each metal element in the alloy emits a unique "fluorescence" signal. The machine reads those signals and calculates the exact percentage of gold, silver, copper, zinc, and any other metals present, in seconds.

Crucially, XRF testing is 100% non-destructive. Your jewellery is not cut, scratched, dissolved in acid, or melted in any way during the XRF phase. You hand us your piece, we place it in the machine, and within 30–60 seconds you have a purity reading displayed on-screen, with your item returned to you unchanged.

Why "Dual" XRF: Two Passes, Not One

A single XRF reading can be affected by surface plating, oxidation, or uneven alloy distribution on the outer layer of the item. We run two independent XRF passes, one on the surface and one at a slightly adjusted angle or position, to cross-verify the result and identify any surface-vs-core inconsistency.

If both readings are consistent, we have high confidence in the purity figure. If there is a meaningful discrepancy (for example, a plated outer layer hiding a lower-purity core), we will explain this to you transparently and, if required, offer a melt test to verify the true core composition, always with your informed consent and at only a flat ₹100 melting charge.
